Is it a bug or a Porsche? The new 2011 Beetle is rumored to be based on the MKVI Golf platform with Porsche type styling. Rumors of the new sporty style has been whispered everywhere lately. There are even rumors of a Microbus being based on it. Where the hell does is stop? Next we’ll hear it’s air-cooled and rear engined. The Porsche styling I believe, although the renderings I’ve seen so far, I believe, are closer to 928 rear style than 911 style. After all, Porsche has had some sorta lemons too. The 914, not a huge seller although it has gained popularity as of late. The 924 turbo, at least the 944 turned it into a little bit of a sports car. Then you have the 911, classic Porsche style that could make a mother sell her child to possess. So, what do I think about VW drastically changing the Beetle’s Beetle look? Well, in my opinion, they’re taking a wrong turn. Chop the top, turn it into a rat rod, bring back a rear engine, put flowers all over it, but turn it into a Porsche looky like? I don’t think it will work. It’s like having the Rock play Rocky Balboa, He’s too streamlined to take the place of a character who’s had the crap beat out of him over a twenty year run, he lacks character in both his body and face . Same holds true for the 2011 Beetle. The New Beetle went far enough moving the engine to the front, but at least it kept the classic lines, the 2011 Beetle will remove those lines and in my opinion, makes it look like a PT Cruiser from the rear. At least if the renderings hold true. Discuss this more in the Forums
